Our organic cotton is produced in accordance with international organic standards. Since it does not use harmful pesticides or chemical fertilizers, it significantly reduces adverse environmental impact and CO2 emissions, as well as contributes to protecting the health of ecosystems and farmers. In addition, the harvested cotton is bought according to fair trade, so even vulnerable farmers are fairly compensated for their work, which helps enable sustainable, circular agriculture. These processes are rigorously inspected and certified by a third-party certification body.
Sustainability is receiving increased attention, including through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The textile industry has been identified as having the second-greatest environmental burden, after the oil industry, and reform is urgently needed. Organic cotton is one solution. Although organic products currently account for less than 1% of total cotton production, we hope that the transition from traditionally grown cotton to organic cotton will help create a better, more sustainable cycle.
Traceability means being able to know where the products you purchase came from. Although it may initially sound like a simple concept, traceability is difficult to achieve in the textile industry due to the complex manufacturing processes. We of course feel peace of mind when a product’s origins are clear, and knowing the story behind production can also be an opportunity to become more attached to the product itself.
All the yarn used for our fabric is certified organic. Yarn manufactured domestically is produced in accordance with Panoco Trading’s voluntary standards and processing standards set by the Nippon Organic Cotton Marketing Organization.
